Friday February 8, 2013: lunch

Malay Chinese Takeaway
Shop 1, 50-58 Hunter St

You know you’ve found an authentic asian kitchen when in the middle of a cosmopolitan Western city, you see at least 3/4 of the customers are asian and most of them are eating laksa.

Having heard good reports about this place and how busy it is, I turn up around 2:30pm to avoid the lunch time crowd. It is still relatively full but I get a table.

I go with a seafood laksa. At the pick up counter there are 3 large pots for their own chilli sauce, their own xo sauce and something with shallots in it. I add a mix of chilli and xo sauce to my dish. Sweating starts within a minute of starting. This is good. This is my second visit.

  1. Yum. I’m Asian, but I’ve never tried this before. Is it Chinese? Vietnamese? Something else? Wherever it’s from, it looks great. I’ll have to try it one of these days.

  2. A peep into that bowl and I start salivating. I think it tastes so damn good, no doubt about it. Thanks for making me long for soup….I would want mine extra, extra mild I don’t care that it should be hot and spicy.
