Hmmm, 2 posts in a row featuring the Sydney Opera House? My final countdown week continues…

This is just a small selection of the various scenes of a lightshow projected onto the Sydney Opera House. I don’t have the energy to process all the 200+ photos I have.

Kind of suggestive of a James Bond movie opening title πŸ™‚

The annual VIVID festival of Sydney transforms various harbourside locations into a spectacular canvas of light, music and ideas from 24 May – 10 June 2013. Highlights include the popular immersive light installations and projections; performances from local and international musicians at Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House and the Vivid Ideas Exchange featuring public talks and debates from leading global creative thinkers.

The above is interesting. At this location, there was a dance stage and people are invited to choose a song and dance on the stage. The light show is then determined by the song and one’s dance moves.
Here’s a quick video showing how it works… Weapon of Choice

The light shows are accompanied by music and many of the other installations are interactive.

When I finished photographing the light show, I turned around and saw a thick fog coming in…

  1. Beautiful shots and happy events!. Sydney Opera House by Utzon is like a “Mecca” for every contemporary architects who, at least one time in his life, would like to go there and see it! I haven’t stayed yet but who knows if someday…! πŸ™‚

    Regards,

    • I certainly hope that someone like you who is able to appreciate the Opera House on multiple levels is able to visit and see it one day. Thanks for the comments.

    • You can see a glimpse of the Bridge lights in my last fog shot, but the lights are only on the western side. It’s an interactive display . Not as interesting as the other displays.

    • Thanks. I shouldn’t complain. I wore a coat with big pockets so I could have one lens on the Leica and my 90mm in my pocket. Just had to carry a tripod, so that was pretty lightweight compared to the SLR photographers.

  2. You sure know how to go away with a big bang! Love them all! Vibrant and sexy. You strutting off like a peacock πŸ˜‰ Looking forward to more more more… Staying tuned!

  4. Wow – they can really do some exciting things with lights today can’t they!!? πŸ˜€ Quite impressive pictures!

I have an ancient castle in the city where I live, in the Victorian era some clever clogs decided to cover the outside walls in white stone to blend in with all the other wonderful new white stone buildings of the time! Must have upset a few people I would think. However, they may have had some serious foresight, because now they can project wonderful images on that white stone!!!

Here is a link to the local newspaper, if you’d like to see it. It’s not as impressive as your pictures here, the video doesn’t do the show justice – much more impressive in real life! πŸ˜€ http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/youtubes_day_when_norwich_castle_was_focus_of_3d_projection_1_1938114

    • Thanks Suzy.

That show looked very entertaining with a bit of storytelling. I didn’t know there were dragons and star wars type guns in your area. πŸ™‚ It’s actually quite 3D at times. Yes, it’s amazing the shows they can do these days.

  5. These photos are like being at Vivid again — but without the crowds. My favourite this year was the MOMA, and that red jewel that splintered and flew away. Your images make me want to buy a proper camera and learn how to use it. I’m definitely looking forward to your future posts.
