“To be free is to have no fear”
Sydney July 2015 – Melbourne March 2016 (11 photos)
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some but for everyone
“Heaven on Earth”
Lord, we don’t need another mountain
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross
Enough to last ’till the end of time
“R.E.S.P.E.C.T.”
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some but for everyone
“Burning down the house”
Lord, we don’t need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh, listen, lord, if you want to know
“Passing traffic”
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, oh, but just for ever, every, everyone
“No room at the inn”
What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)
What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)
What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)
“Just trying to be human”
“The power of one”
Over at The Weekly Photo Challenge, the topic is One Love. Here is an aggregate of some recent random sightings. Apart from being a feast for the eyes, street art has a habit of underscoring the social issues of the day.
“Hope springs eternal”
“What the World Needs Now Is Love” is a 1965 song with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. First recorded and made popular by Jackie DeShannon, it was released on April 15, 1965, on the Imperial label after a release on sister label Liberty records the previous month was cancelled. The song reached number 7 on the US Hot 100 charts in July of that year.
“Welcome to paradise”
“One Love”
I loved this song as a child. It goes perfectly with your awesome photos 🙂
Thanks. It’s an oldie but a goodie, that lasts the test of time. 🙂
Good song – good sentiment on the mural.
Thank you. The song is as valid now, if not more so, as it was 50 years ago.
Indeed! I remember the Dionne Warwick version of this song.
Another good version. Interestingly, the song was first offered to Dionne but she declined, so the song was given to Jackie.
Nice little nugget of knowledge there, thanks.
You’re welcome. 🙂
Indeed!
Very much so.
A lovely potpourri of images, LD.
Thank you kindly.
Beautiful captures. Great diversity of shots, and each of them certainly says something about Australia. Love the song What The World Needs Now. Was forced to learn it in primary school – but I didn’t mind because I love the message of it. A classic 🙂
Thanks. I did notice several large wall posters about refugees in Melbourne whilst I was there. There are a lot issues to be solved in this day and age.
That’s a good song to learn. A classic song with just as much relevance today.
Nice collection of street art…
Thank you.
Such great color you got in these photos!
Thank you kindly. 🙂
As always…the connections you make between your (wonderful) images and music is just brilliant. I have been sitting here for some time now staring at the white box below “The Wood Dragon is listening…” asking myself, “Is that all the world needs?”…..always appreciate your posts…. have a great week.
Thank you very much. The answer may be simple but the journey there can be very very rough, perhaps impossible.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Thank you!
🙂
Beautiful murals and a timeless song! 🙂
Thank you.
All amazing photos and the result for me is a rush of long-squelched hope! Thanks.
Thank you. It’s a bit like that, isn’t it?
Great photos, Dragon! These street art works are meaningful as you connect them with this special song. And, the lyric means much more today than decades ago as the world is changing vastly. It’s worrisome in many ways… Your message is there. Another brilliant interpretation for the WPC. 🙂
The answer is in sight, but people choose to ignore it. Yes, this simple beautiful song is still relevant today. Thanks, Amy.
I’m guilty… I just need someone to put all these together along with a nice lyric and a short video, like this post. 🙂
I’ll always remember this one. 🙂
Thank you very much, Amy. 🙂
So funny – What the World Needs Now was playing on my iPod when I clicked into your post! Of all the songs on my list, of all the posts . . . . Lignum, it was meant to be! Love the way you caught the light dancing through these splendid works!
Quite the coincidence, indeed. And the song is still in my head. 🙂
Colourful walls!!! 😀 The quote about being spiritual beings trying to be human – I’d like to think that’s true. Kind of dire to think it might be the other way round. But on the other hand, maybe we see what we want to see?
Actually, being human is a tough gig. Some have just given up but most of us do our best.
beautiful murals and thought-provoking messages in them… I will listen to the song now 🙂
Thank you. I hope you enjoyed the song. 🙂
Good Post,The quote about being spiritual beings trying to be human I’d like to think that’s true.
A rather profound statement, isn’t it? Thank you.
Nice Post i Like It
Thanks again.
I’ve not heard that song in awhile, thanks for sharing.
Thank you. 🙂
🙂 some lovely street art here. Have a good week, Draco!
Thanks, Paula. Wishing you a great week ahead, too.
All beautiful , some touching…..
Thank you very much. 🙂
You prepared a fabulous interpretation for the theme. It’s a great collection of street photography plus the lyrics. Kudos.
Thank you very much. Street art underscores the mood of the people. It’s a powerful medium.
You’re most welcome.
🙂
Grew up listening to my mom, listening to this song.
Loved it then, and still do.
Still so very, very appropriate too.
Great photos for this one, Lignum.
Thanks, Lisa. Glad I brought back some happy memories. The song’s message is just as relevant now.
I love your love! Awesome .. Got me singing too Mr D! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much, Julie. The song is still in my head, too. 🙂
Ha ha and mine
Earworms – a danger of my blog. 🙂
Ha ha ha ..
Boredom .. A danger of mine! Ha ha
Absolutely not! 🙂
Ah, the kids! Always the kids 🙂 Two such very different child images with equal impact for me. Love the song, Still just as true. Sending a little love your way 🙂
Thank you, Jo. Right back at you. 🙂
Bacharach & Warwick; what a team they made. Their rendition of this song is still amazing to me.
I agree. It’s a beautiful song.
Great set of murals to pull together the theme. I enjoyed it!
Thank you very much. Street artistry tends to underscore the social conscience.
I’ve been seeing the comment mails pile up in my inbox and waiting to find time to see this post. It did not disappoint. Draco, I did not realise Melbourne had such a great collection of street art and you have photographed them beautifully. Like everyone else thinks, that song is timelines. Great post Draco.
Thanks for finding the time to visit. These shots are from Sydney and Melbourne, but the Melbourne laneways are a hive of artistic activity. Google Hosier Lane as an example.
I was in Melbourne for the Ai weiwei exhibition, which I’ve already posted some photos from, so it was a cultural and arts trip for me.
That would have been an interesting exhibition, and I’ll try to find time to check out your blog post. I seem to be behind with just about everything at the moment. Havent even had time to do the photo challenge this week!
Blogging is just for fun. Stay grounded in the real life. We all need more time.
How you’ve married music and photography together is just magic – beautiful 😊
Thank you very much.
Amazing street art matched with the perfect lyrics for this “one love” challenge. Now I will be humming that tune as I go to bed… good night LD, sweet dreams…
Thank you. You will have sweet dreams humming that song. Good night to you.
Good morning, I did have a good nights sleep
Thought you would. 🙂
🙂
What a collection of shots! And, for its time, a most memorable song. Left me with a smile and I thank you.
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. Back from your latest undercover mission, I see.

The world needs love more than ever. They also say “A picture’s worth a thousand words.” If the word is “love”, keep those photos coming.
Thank you kindly.
I think the world need RESPECT to one another. Respect others so that they will respect you too.
Such an easy concept, isn’t it? Yet so hard for some to implement.
Nice post! It’s like a spin off of my post put into better context the way things should be! If I said that right! 😊
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
