Sydney June 2015 – April 2016 (6 photos)
At the Vivid Festival of Sydney in 2015, one of the light installations was a video entitled Life Story, by BBC Earth. The installation featured the flowing natural imagery of bird, marine and animal life originally filmed by the BBC Natural History Unit for its epic television series Life Story. The BBC Earthโs Life Story installation was projected onto the vaulted rock-face roof of the Argyle Cut creating a vast, never-ending pattern of textures, colours and intertwined shapes. It explored themes of birth and life in one continual and seamless projection, perfectly framed by the cavernous rock surface of the Cut, and was narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
The Earth and the environment feature heavily in Art works these days.
It’s as if we need to be reminded that Earth and Mother Nature need our helping hand…
This last photo was taken on Cockatoo island at the Biennale of Sydney. The artist is Korakrit Arunanondchai. The installation is entitled, “Painting with history in a room filled with people with funny names 3, 2015-16.”
The room you see the art installation in was used as one of the locations for the Wolverine movie.

My pleasure. ๐

Thanks.
Mesmerizing installation. I have noticed that Planet Earth is appearing more in art these days. We’re trying to capture that which we innately feel is slipping away from us.
I think you’re right. Like trying to recapture one’s youth.
Stunning shots all round. Interesting to see last year Life Story was an installation over and up – that spectators had to crane their neck upwards to get a full view. I think many looked up in wonder and amazement ๐ Love the last shot. Such a welcoming feel to that room. Well timed.
Standing room only on weekends. On the quieter weeknights, people had room to lie on the road and gaze up.
Thanks, I was quite fortunate to catch the monkey as he was extending his hand. ๐
Just wow!
Thanks. ๐
Adore the final shot . . . . so much apocalyptic potential, the face and outstretched arm saying so much while the neat bin in the bottom right corner suggests hope and a certain order that the rubbish will indeed be collected and life goes on.
A fabulous set Lignum.
Love your interpretation of the scene, Patti. The chimp next to an open cage door, with arm outstretched says so much.
What an awesome post for this awesome Life Story! You got me all fired up for the upcoming Vivid Sydney! Thank you for the link of your previous posts. ๐
Thank you very much, Amy. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do this year. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the previous series. ๐
Beautiful and unusual images!
Thank you very much. ๐
Never enough to see, beautiful. I really enjoyed. I admire the vivid colors of the animals. Really great festival! Awesome fotos Draco!
Thank you very much. They go all out with the colours and I appreciate it on the cold winter’s nights. ๐
These look incredibly difficult to photograph, Draco! What a great job you’ve done. It must have been wonderful in reality. ๐
Thanks, Jo. They can be difficult to photograph but it’s fun. Being a resident I usually have the time to go on several nights which is helpful. Why sit at home in a warm house when you can be outside on a cold winter’s night instead? ๐
I like your thinking! Maybe a hot toddy to come home to. ๐ (I just thought that being Australian you might misinterpret this- it’s a drink ๐ )
Thank you for that very important clarification. My mind was starting to go into overdrive. ๐
Looking forward to your new photos of Vivid!
Thank you. Some late nights coming up, I think. ๐
Great images. Must be amazing in person.
Thank you. It is. There’s so much to see now and a great atmosphere.
Great captures. I would have loved to have seen it, the Life Story series was so beautifully filmed. Have a good weekend ๐
It was nicely done – the rock cutting is so large, you don’t know where to look sometimes. Two weeks to go until this year’s event. Have a great weekend, too.
There is so much beautiful color here, Lignum.
Wonderful post!
Thank you very much. Wishing you a great weekend.
While the last is for sure my favorite, the first shot is a terrific teaser: whaa ? huh?
Thanks.
Here’s another whaa? huh? moment for you. Look at the wall in the last photo carefully, especially at the sides. This was a movie set and those are wooden walls with a woven wallpaper on it to make it look like a brick wall. ๐
Well…whaa? and huh? back at you. I would never have caught that. Never. Even going back for another look, it appears pretty darned authentic to me. (Wait till I get my new eyes. I’ll be able to look right THROUGH walls like these. ๐ )
Movie magic. I see you’ve chosen the six million dollar man surgical option. ๐
We can rebuild her. We have the technology.
Your not seeing Dr Rudy Wells, by any chance? ๐
la vita sembra piovere dal cielo in questo magico caleidoscopio di idee , luci e colori, Sidney รจ una cittร molto ” avanti”
notte felice
Vero. Un arcobaleno colorato di notte. Grazie.
Did you lie down to capture the ceilings? Moving and optimistic ending with the “helping hand”. Amazing display!
Thank you very much, Paula.
No, not my style to lie on the road. Too hard on the back – ouch. ๐
I hope that your foot is not too bad now.
A lot better, but not the same as before. You have to expect that with age, sadly. ๐
Beautiful work .. Gosh there are some clever people .. You included Mr D
Thank you kindly, Julie. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend .
I am Mr D ๐
Great. ๐
Just stunning I especially liked the intertwining peacock feathers.
Yes, it was a gigantic colourful display.
Aussie knows how to put on a good display.
Indeed we do. ๐
With brilliance like that I am doubly bummed that I won’t be in Sydney for Vivid2016. But at least I can enjoy it here. And that last shot from the Embassy of the Real was fantastic.
Thanks, Lisa. You’re seeing more of Australia, and you can’t knock that.
But if you did have a spare day and were sick of the Tropical North (yeah, right!) it wouldn’t be difficult to fly back for an overnight stay to spend 1 night seeing Vivid. ๐
Oooh, now that is an idea. Everything is possible. But if I can’t make it, I’ll be sure to tune in here for the highlights!
Thanks. Well, if you do have the time, it’s just a short flight away. ๐
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing! The world is a better place for all the creatives.
It most definitely is. ๐
I bet the people lying on the ground are photographers lol ๐
LOL. Yeah, photographers get into strange positions for their shots, sometimes. ๐
Stunning! I wish I could be laying on the ground looking, too!
Some people came with rugs. Obviously well prepared. ๐
It’s amazing what can be done now with lights, that’s so attractive! ๐ I had to look up what the Argyle Cut was, and in the process found some very old black and white images. I wonder what those children of the 18/1900’s time would think if they knew that would be possible one day?
It was built with convict labour without today’s modern equipment. In itself, that is impressive. I guess progress is only limited by our imagination now.
